Litigation Bourbon Quito
Criminales
The Criminales section of the Archivo Nacional del Ecuador contains individual instances of criminal litigation dating to 1589. For the Bourbon Quito project, this Series is supplmented by criminal litigation drawn also from the 1st and 3rd Notaries' Juicios sections. The crimes represented run the gamut, though those represented here tend to emphasize moral and violent crimes.
Civiles
Civil cases are located in a variety of Series in the Archivo Nacional del Ecuador. Civil cases center on property disputes of one form or another: divorce, testaments, loan instruments, land disputes, etc. Some insult cases are both civil and criminal. The Bourbon Quito project draws on civil cases from the Civiles, 1st Notary, 3rd Notary, Matrimoniales, Pesos, and other Series.
Residencias
The Residencias Series of the Archivo Nacional del Ecuador contains investigations of royal officials after the termination of their time in office. Many different royal officials were required to submit their administrative records to scrutiny, including Notaries. The investigations were, at least nominally, held in secret. They also contain testimony from across the social spectrum.
Otras
In addition to the litigation contained in the other sections listed here, the Bourbon Quito project uses records from a variety of institutional sources, including the Office of the Presidency of the Audiencia, the religious corporations in the city, the Inquisition and the Obispo, and more. Items of interest that don't fit in above will end up here.
